Scanning

We make high quality scans of nearly every photographic format in use. Some of the most common items we digitize include:

  • Photographic prints (color, black & white, Polaroids, all sizes)

  • Slides (35mm, 110, 120 medium format, etc.)

  • Negatives (35mm, 126, Disc, glass plates, etc.)

  • Photo Albums and Scrapbooks

  • Letters, Documents, Certificates and Calligraphy Pieces

With these precious items, our approach is to make sure that they are physically cleaned, and then scanned at optimal quality as they enter a new and more useful digital form.

While many companies use bulk automated feed scanners to deliver a basic rendition of the original items, we “re-photograph” each individual photo, slide and negative with a high resolution digital camera in a controlled environment, using a customized approach to each item’s size, material and condition.

This approach is called “camera scanning,” and it captures detail at 600 PPI for prints and 4000 PPI for slides and negatives. It’s the approved method for preserving collections at the Library of Congress, National Archives and major museums around the world.

We are also equipped to scan artworks, photo albums, scrapbooks and important documents such as diplomas, birth certificates and other similar items.

With every scan, we apply rotation, cropping and color correction to deliver the best possible digital representation of the original source.

These methods give our clients the confidence to know that every texture and detail is preserved at the highest quality, as well as making these scans suitable for printed keepsake books, enlargements and wall display.
